To put an arrow in a crossbow, the first thing you need to do is craft the crossbow.

You can equip the crossbow by dragging it to your hotbar slot selector or inventory icon. Once equipped, right-click while aiming at an enemy player or mob to fire an arrow at them! You can also hold down shift while firing to shoot faster than normal.
Crossbows are very useful in combat as they have a faster fire rate than bows and do not suffer from the same damage drop-off over distance as bows do.
